LIMIT MULTITASKING

Why do so many people still insist on doing ten things at once as a means for increasing productivity? Focusing on several things at once puts a strain on the brain and can have an adverse effect on your memory.

A study conducted at Stanford University shows that People who are regularly bombarded with several streams of electronic information do not pay attention, control their memory or switch from one job to another as well as those who prefer to complete one task at a time,

ADEQUATE AMOUNT OF SLEEP

Studies have shown poor sleep can cause protein buildup in the brain that attacks brain cells. Make sure you regularly get seven-to-eight hours of sleep.

During sleep, various changes are occurring in the brain wave activities including breathing, regulating heart rate and maintaining body temperature.

EAT A MEDITERRANEAN DIET

Your diet plays a large role in your brain health. Studies show people who closely follow a Mediterranean diet are less likely to have Alzheimer’s disease than people who don’t follow the diet.

The Mediterranean diet varies by country and region, so it has a range of definitions. But in general, it’s high in vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, beans, cereals, grains, fish, and unsaturated fats such as olive oil. It usually includes a low intake of meat and dairy foods.

STAY MOTIVATED

A motivated brain builds faster and more robust neural connections. Identify your passions and learn more about them.

It’s easy to write off a lack of motivation as an excuse to partake in laziness, but the cause of our motivation (or lack thereof) is largely a part of brain anatomy and chemistry. And the good news is, if you’re struggling to stay motivated, you can train your brain to do better.

SOCIALIZING CAN KEEP BRAIN HEALTHY

Socializing and maintaining friendships can protect against cognitive decline. We are deeply social creatures. From our families, friends, co-workers and business partners, our societies are built on layers of complex social interactions.

Building social networks and participating in social activities are like exercises for your brain because they keep your mind agile and improve cognitive function. Socialization can even help prevent mental decline and lower the risk of dementia.
